I wrote the following piece a year and a half ago, and now it’s time to fit it into its proper place in story time.  For those of you who read it back then, I hope you find something new to enjoy now that you have some context.  And as for you first-time readers, I hope you like it.  I think it’s a pretty good thing.

    My first real live-in boyfriend was a Vietnam Vet. I was 19, he was 34. It is impossible to capture that particular torment on paper, but yes – you did it very well the second time around. I think I can consider myself an ‘almost expert’ on the subject of being on the receiving end of such anguish, whether for a day or a year-and-a-half.

    Well worth rerunning. The 80’s seem so far removed from the Vietnam War, but portraits like that are a little clue as to what we’ll be in for for the next few decades…
