Deep Cuts: Bathing Songs

Showers aren’t just for sexy, soapy women who bathe in slow motion without their makeup getting ruined.  No, we all scrub-a-dub in the tub every day, hopefully. So the next time you’re being extra careful to get behind your ears, crank this playlist.  And don’t turn the hot water too high.  That stuff will knock…

Psycho (1960) Directed by Alfred Hitchcock Shown: Janet Leigh (as Marion Crane)Showers aren’t just for sexy, soapy women who bathe in slow motion without their makeup getting ruined.  No, we all scrub-a-dub in the tub every day, hopefully. So the next time you’re being extra careful to get behind your ears, crank this playlist.  And don’t turn the hot water too high.  That stuff will knock you out.

“Standing in the Shower…Thinking,” Jane’s Addiction.  At this point I’ve either completely burned you out on Jane’s or you’re starting to come around.  This cut has always been a favorite of mine because it’s almost Beat poetry: simple, straight lines.  That’s what it’s all about.

“Here Come the Warm Jets,” Brian Eno.  This one’s only about showering if you want it to be.  Since its debut in 1974, several critics have argued that the warm jets referenced here are a reference to urolagnia.  It’s all in the eye of the beholder, I suppose, and that can sting.

“Bathtime in Clerkenwell,” The Real Tuesday Weld.  Maybe the most fun on this week’s playlist.

“Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor,” Eels.  THREE WEEKS OF EELS!

“My Girlfriend’s Shower Sucks,” Goldfinger.  I’m not a big fan of the post-grunge punk bands.  It’s the old fart in me:  “These young kids don’t know what punk is!”  Still, I own a few discs, and this one’s in my stacks.  It’s not bad.

“Don’t You Ever Wash That Thing?” Frank Zappa.  This clip is from son Dweezil’s Zappa plays Zappa line-up, and bless him for keeping the great man’s music on the road.

There you have it — a short list of cuts worth of listening to while you splish, splash, and take a bath.  What rubber ducky songs have I missed?  I’m listening.

Come on, you didn’t think I was going to let a bathing playlist go by without including the single greatest musician of his — or any, really — generation, did you?

A notorious line indeed. Maybe they were Eno fans….

I have been, Diggy, and you really need to work on those split infinitives in your first drafts.

Although not fully about bathing, it does have the line “happy hours, golden showers” in it…

Let me try again, WordPress demon! Okay. Bath songs are good! Who knew? More Eels! More Eels! More Eels! (Thank you.)
I will add Bath Water Blues by Reverand Horton Heat. You didn’t think I’d add Splish Splash by Bobby Darin, did you?
