Christmas specials were huge news when I was a kid. Around the third grade they became “kid stuff,” which basically meant that we all still watched them but we just didn’t admit it. Who’s going to pass up Frosty? Nobody.
My favorites were the Rankin-Bass specials, those weird, stop motion shows like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and The Year Without A Santa Claus. Long after my era, they made a really twisted one entitled The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. Recreational pharmaceuticals are highly recommended before viewing that one.
Not all holiday specials were animated, of course. There were the celebrity specials and the once-per-year movies, too.
So, no either/or choices this week, just lay it on me: What is (or was) your favorite holiday special? Answers must fit in a stocking, and come on people, Let’s make Laura B. proud.

Why It Matters 
Rudolph. Hands down the most thought out story. Childhood exclusion, suspense, comedy, practicing dentistry without a license. Something for everyone.

That’s a tough one. Tough as overcooked roast beast.
My top three are ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’, ‘Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer’ and ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’. There are things about each of these that I admit still melt my heart. I love all three, but it’s Charlie Brown that I always save for last.

I’m 2/3 in the Robbo camp: How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. My third favorite would have to be Little Drummer Boy. What sold me on all three is the music, all singable. But if you threatened me with a sharpened candy cane sword and ordered me to choose just one, I would go with How the Grinch Stole Christmas, because his heart grew three sizes that day. And he cuts a mean Santa outfit.
