What was my daughter’s biggest concern for our epic road trip? Radio management.

The soundtracks to my childhood road trips consisted of news, Paul Harvey, and old radio shows. Aside from the news, I enjoyed listening. Trying to figure out when Paul Harvey switched from a story to a plug kept me on my toes, and those pre-television radio dramas remain oddly engaging.

I couldn’t put my kid through that, though. Between her phone, my iPod, and her streaming services we had plenty of music. When she grew bored with my music she threw on her headphones, and when I got bored with hers I–well, I tried to keep my mouth shut. Everybody should get a shot at the car stereo, you know?

Anyway, traveling songs:

“Travelin’ Man,” Ricky Nelson.

“It’s Mighty Dark For Me To Travel,” Bill Monroe.

“Have Love Will Travel,” The Sonics.

“Travelling Riverside Blues,” Led Zeppelin.

“Travellin’ Blues,” Lefty Frizell.

“True Love Travels On A Gravel Road,” Percy Sledge.

“Duke’s Travels,” Genesis.

“The Traveling Kind,” Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell

So there’s eight songs for flying across the land and trying to get a hand. What did I miss? I’m listening.
