Why It Matters

It seems that everyone harbors secret fantasies of being a writer. Those of us who do write find ourselves listening to friends’ story ideas. Those conversations often go on for several minutes, the characters and plot points piling up while we nod with interest and smile at the speaker’s enthusiasm. It’s surprising how much thought these folks have given stories that they never plan on writing.

And why don’t they plan on writing them? “Oh, I’m not a writer” is the most common explanation. Sure you are! That story and those characters sprang forth from your noggin, not mine. The only thing preventing you from calling yourself a writer is committing those ideas to paper.

Will it be a good story? Will you be able to sell it? Will anyone read it? Who cares–if you want to write, write.
