The photo accompanying this “Deep Cuts” gives you some idea of how seriously we used to take both our coffee and our sexism.
Fortunately, a lot has changed since this Chase & Sanborn ad first ran back in the early 1950s. The quality of our coffee has gotten much better, for example, as has our graphic design. As for the sexism; well, it’s not as overt 60 years on, but if you think it’s not there you’re fooling yourself. We’re certainly a lot farther down the road than the days when husbands spanking wives were used to sell products, though. After all, the main characters in the multi-million selling Fifty Shades series aren’t married. Progress!
Anyway, coffee songs:
“Sexy Coffee Pot,” Tony Alvon & the Belairs.
“Raindrops In My Coffee,” Sexsmith & Kerr.
“Cigarettes and Coffee Blues,” Lefty Frizzell.
“Cigarettes and Coffee,” Otis Redding.
“Starfish and Coffee,” Prince and the Muppets.
“Java,” Al Hirt.
“Full Cup Of Coffee,” Tweaker.
“Coffee Stain,” Sarah Harmer.
There you have it: Eight tracks about everybody’s favorite bean. Well, maybe not everybody. You probably think this list is about you, don’t you? Don’t you?
What songs did I miss? I’m listening.

This week was way too easy for the likes of Robbo.

If Robbo gets here first, I don’t stand a chance – there is nothing at the bottom of that barrel. :D. (P.s. In the spirit of “what is going on now” – how about some microwave songs?
