Measuring most things is easy. You just get out your scale, rule, or tape measure and get to work. Too big for that sort of analog measuring tool? There’s always math.
But how does one measure the intangible? What is the measure of success, for example? How does one quantify the best band, the perfect peach, the deepest love? And why do we have to impose relative values on those things, anyway?
Just enjoy your peach. Like your favorite band. And if you’re an artist, count yourself successful for no other reason than you’re making art. Go write, draw, dance, act, play. You’re a superstar, that’s what you are.
Anyway, measuring success
“You Can’t Miss What You Can’t Measure,” Funkedelic.
“The Weight,” Aretha Franklin.
“A Spoonful Weighs A Ton,” The Flaming Lips.
“Ten Feet Tall,” XTC.
“Heavy Horses,” Jethro Tull.
“Beating Around the Bush,” AC/DC.
“Try Me On For Size,” Those Fadin’ Colors.
“Pulse,” Todd Rundgren.
There you have it: eight songs for measuring whatever it is that’s important to you. What did I miss? I’m listening.
