I bet you’ve made a monster or two in your time. When you were a kid, you drew your mom with 18 fingers and a smile bigger than her face. You probably created a few accidental trolls with your Play-Doh, too.
If you play an instrument you’ve made plenty of musical monsters, especially when you were first learning your instrument. Listen to a room full of kids playing “Hot Cross Buns” on recorders and you’ll hear what I’m talking about.
Or maybe you’re a writer and you’ve left a few monsters on the page by not finishing your characters, damning them to hobble around in a broken story for all eternity.
The important thing here is that you created something. We need more people making things–not for us, necessarily, but for their own good. Making stuff makes our souls, so don’t sweat whether you’ve created an accidental monster. You’ll create a whole bunch of them before you have some control over whatever artistic medium you choose. Just keep creating.
Anyway, monster songs:
“How To Make A Monster,” Rob Zombie.
“Monster Man,” Soul Coughing.
“My Beloved Monster,” Eels.
“November Spawned A Monster,” Morrissey.
“What Kind of Monster Are You?” Slant 6.”
“Waltz of the Monster Dogs,” Flipron.
“Monster Voice,” Warlords of Pez.
“Monster,” Rollins Band.
There you have it: Eight songs for the misshapen beast that you willed into existence. What did I miss? I’m listening.
