Deep Cuts: Songs For the Second

All this talk about New Year’s Day, but it’s January 2 when things really get moving. Many of us piss the First away nursing our hangovers, after all, or pretending that we’re going to get the best out of that new gym membership. Come January 2, though, we’re back to work, back to the grind, back to our routines.

Yep, for all intents and purpose the Second is the first day of the new year. It’s one of those mathematically inconsistent truths.

So welcome to the new year. Here’s some music:

“The Second Door,” False Prophet.

“Second Chance,” Any Trouble.

“Second Coming,” Alice Cooper.

“Second Production,” Mike Stuart Span.

“Second Guessing,” R.E.M.

“Not A Second Time,” Robert Palmer.

“Mr. Second Class,” The Spencer Davis Group.

“Second Hand Man,” Carey Bell and Junior Wells.

There you have it: Eight songs for the true start of the year. What did I miss? I’m listening.
