Deep Cuts: The Rock Week

My mother was legendary for knowing a song about anything.  The woman was a musical encyclopedia.  “Hey, Larry has cancer.”  “Ohhhhhh cancer cancer / not for dancers….” Now I’m that guy.  My kids will mistakenly utter a keyword and much to their dismay I’m off on a poorly warbled earworm.  Granted, my repertoire doesn’t go…

My mother was legendary for knowing a song about anything.  The woman was a musical encyclopedia.  “Hey, Larry has cancer.”  “Ohhhhhh cancer cancer / not for dancers….”

Now I’m that guy.  My kids will mistakenly utter a keyword and much to their dismay I’m off on a poorly warbled earworm.  Granted, my repertoire doesn’t go back to Busby Berkeley, but a comment like “Relax!” will get them a few minutes of Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

Anyway, I recently noticed that I tend to warble the day of the week when it comes to my attention.    Here’s a playlist of songs for each day of the week, but there are lots of options.  What’s your definitive rock week?  I’m listening.

“The Monday Troop,” Gary Numan/Tubeway Army

“Tuesday’s Gone,” Metallica

“Wednesday Week,” The Undertones

“Thursday’s Child,” David Bowie

“Fridays Angels,” Generation X

“Sunless Saturday,” Fishbone

“Naked Sunday,” Stone Temple Pilots

** Super Exclusive Top Secret Hidden Bonus Track **

“Welcome To The Working Week,” Elvis Costello

Nothing wrong with those choices, nothing at all.

Oh god, I am such a dirge. “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” (U2) and “I Don’t Like Mondays” (Boomtown Rats). Every week. After that, the days just blur into one Vida Loca.

What are you talking about? This is a great list. I’m particularly delighted by “Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon.” Well done.

Nice work as always! Related: I think David Bowie probably farts and it still sounds musically viable.

Oh, your week is so much better than mine! I made a weekday playlist at some point, but it is pretty cheesy. Really.

    Manic Monday – The Bangles
    Ruby Tuesday – Rolling Stone
Wednesday Morning 3am – Simon and Garfunkel
Probably on Thursday – Sarah Brightman
    Friday Night – Darkness
Saturday Night – Bay City Rollers
Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon – Queen
