May’s big holiday in the United States is Memorial Day. By design, it’s a very somber holiday: Memorial Day is when we remember the men and women who died in service to our country.
In practice, though, Memorial Day is a three day weekend, the unofficial kickoff of the summer season, and Indy 500 weekend. It’s also when the studios traditionally release their summer blockbusters, though that schedule isn’t quite as rigid as it used to be.
So I guess my point is that whatever you do with your May, enjoy it. Be somber, barbecue, watch some car wrecks, then go to the movies. Meanwhile, why not listen to some music?
“Memories Can’t Wait,” Living Colour.
“Memories Fade,” Tears For Fears.
“Memory of a Free Festival,” David Bowie.
“You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory,” Johnny Thunders.
“Come and Get These Memories,” Kim Weston.
“Drifting On A Memory,” Isley Brothers.
“Painted From Memory,” Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach.
“Set Adrift On Memory Bliss,” P.M. Dawn.
There you have it: Eight songs that I remember about memories. What did I miss? I’m listening.
