  1. Every new JCPenneys & Sears catalog held the keys to my happiness. I was too young to know anything about the quality of the merchandise, just how awesomely cool it would be (I would be) if I had something like the “Quality” combo – yes, champagne tastes indeed.

Later on I bought a Silvertone 1482 amp and my friend/engineer Bob still has his Silvertone 1484.

Only us geeks know that they were made at the time by Dan Electro, nothing at all to put ones nose up to. That 1484 will rip the very sheen off anything that’s left of ones high end, and you’ll smile while doing it.

    • It’s exactly that Dan Electro connection that makes me cringe at all of the cheap Silvertone gear I passed up throughout the Eighties. I feel a bit like the kid who could’ve had the first Superman comic for a nickel.
