I’ve done a poor job of submitting work this calendar year, mostly because I’m pretty damned happy and busy creating new content for all of you here at Why It Matters.
But I really like Under the Gum Tree, a literary magazine bearing the subtitle “Telling Stories Without Shame.” That’s an editorial principle I can get behind, so I continue to send them stories when I remember to stop what I’m doing and submit elsewhere.
The folks over there were kind enough to publish one of my pieces in their October issue, which if you’re so inclined you can pick up either as a digital or print copy here. The art and photography in this issue really justifies the cost of the print copy, if you can afford it.
And if you like what you see, why not consider an Under the Gum Tree subscription? It takes a lot of time, effort, and money to put out a magazine of such high quality — I’m sure they could use a benefactor or two in the form of subscribers.
This issue is kind of special for me, as this is their one year anniversary and they also picked up one of my pieces for their premier issue. That sort of symmetry appeals to me and, you know, it’s all about me.
Anyway, thanks to Under the Gum Tree for putting out a quality literary magazine. I know it’s tough out there right now, so good on you for making a good thing. I wish you many more anniversaries.
