When Joan Baez stepped onto the stage at one a.m. Saturday morning she was six months pregnant and her draft protester husband was on his way to federal prison. Her set was the official close of day one: one hour and thirteen songs.
I’m going to be honest with you — I’m not a fan and never have been. Baez’s set is one of two Woodstock performances that I flip past quickly. I admire the work she’s done for civil rights and other causes, but her vocal histrionics grate my nerves.
But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy Joan’s Woodstock performance, half of which is available. Here is Baez’s Woodstock set list along with where you can find official releases of his performance:
- Oh Happy Day
- The Last Thing On My Mind
- I Shall Be Released
- No Expectations
- Joe Hill (Woodstock -40 Years On: Back To Yasgur’s Farm (CD)
- Sweet Sir Galahad (Woodstock -40 Years On: Back To Yasgur’s Farm (CD)
- Hickory Wind (Woodstock -40 Years On: Back To Yasgur’s Farm (CD)

So glad to be able to finally unburden myself to the only other “not a fan” of Joan Baez. I am going to take a leap of faith here, and I may just be all alone in this corner, but I kind of cannot stand Joni Mitchell either.
