From the Stacks: Wet Willie – The Wetter the Better

Wet Willie was a Southern rock band who had their biggest success on the Capricorn Records label, home of the Allman Brothers Band.  They never hit it really big, but they managed to crank out one hit (1974’s “Keep On Smilin”) and this spanktastic album cover.

I’ve mentioned several times that for a kid growing up in the seventies browsing the record bins was a great way to get a cheap thrill.  We didn’t have the intergooglewebtubes like you kids today with your fancy “computers,” and the Sears catalog could only get a guy so far if you know what I’m saying.

The Wetter the Better had all of the suggestiveness necessary for a pervy bin browse (“Hm, yes, maybe this is the record that I shall purchase…”) and for that reason alone I am including it in the controversial album cover gallery.  Although there was no actual controversy or alternate album cover, there’s no way I could have gotten this into the house without a major stealth operation.

Want your own copy? It’s a pretty common album, so you should be able to find one for two to five bucks.  If you want one still in the shrink wrap expect to pay more.  Happy hunting.
