Deep Cuts: A Glam Rock Christmas

Krampus-Postkarte_um_1900Will this become a Why It Matters tradition?  Probably not, but last year’s obligatory Christmas playlist overlooked the strange obsession that the glam rockers had with the holiday.  I don’t pretend to understand it, I just report it.

So here you go: a glam rock Christmas.  Watch out for Krampus, or at the very least Jimmy Saville and Gary Glitter:

“Thank God It’s Not Christmas,” Sparks

“Christmas Bop,” T. Rex

“Another Rock ‘n Roll Christmas,” Gary Glitter

“Ho! Ho! Ho! (Who’d be a Turkey at Christmas),”  Elton John

“I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday,” Wizzard

“Merry Christmas Everybody,” Slade

“Lonely This Christmas,” Mud

“The Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth,” David Bowie and Bing Crosby

“White Christmas,” Iggy Pop

Only twelve months to work on my next Christmas playlist. What to do, what to do….

  1. Great collection, took me back to my teenage years and taping the songs from the TV using a tape recorder and a hand held microphone. They don’t make Xmas songs like those any more. Just a shame about Glitter and Savile…
