This is a fun one. I wrote a glib little piece about teaching kids personal responsibility, and viewers of The Good Men Project’s Facebook page are ripping me a new one. Was I off the mark? You be the judge: http://goodmenproject.com/featured-content/kid-safety-problem-js/

HOW DARE YOU. HOW. DARE. YOU. AND JUST LIKE THE MAJORITY OF COMMENTS, I HAVE NOT READ THIS PIECE, BUT I SHALL GIVE MY UNINFORMED OPINION ANYWAY. SHAME ON YOU, JONES STIFFORD.

Ripping you a new one? Hardly. Did the website delete mean & hateful comments because I just read the comments. I saw a couple of parents disagree, but I didn’t see anyone say anything mean to you. Most of the commenters seemed to be on your side. I don’t particularly like when people write hateful comments but I didn’t see them.
Sidebar: the title was way harsher than your article. I wonder if someone besides you creates the title. I know another website where the author doesn’t get to pick the title of their own article. It seems like site editors like to pick the “catchiest titles” to lure in readers. Honestly, the title alone could put a person on the defensive, but I don’t think what you wrote was mean.

Thanks, EJ. Your instincts are correct: The really brutal comments never actually makes it onto the site. The Good Men Project is pretty adamant about keeping the discourse civil.
The real action was on GMP’s FB site, where actual calls for my violent death occurred. I suppose it’s good that readers are passionate, right?
