But man, back in the late ’70s and early ’80s there were a few really great punk movies released that captured not just the fashion and the music but the sociopolitical now-ness of it all.

What’s great about watching these rather than contemporary documentaries is the lack of analytical distance. You won’t hear a bunch of philosophizing about why punk matters, but you’ll hear lots of people called boring old cunts. If that doesn’t do it for you, watching Sid Vicious prance around completely oblivious to the freight train headed his way is either entertaining or disturbing, depending on your depth of empathy.
