On Diffuser: Mandatory ’80s Punk Movies

rudeboy1Remember when punk was new, scary, and dangerous? Probably not. As a genre punk is middle-aged now, thick in the belly and thin in the hairline, just like the rest of us.

But man, back in the late ’70s and early ’80s there were a few really great punk movies released that captured not just the fashion and the music but the sociopolitical now-ness of it all.

What’s great about watching these rather than contemporary documentaries is the lack of analytical distance. You won’t hear a bunch of philosophizing about why punk matters, but you’ll hear lots of people called boring old cunts. If that doesn’t do it for you, watching Sid Vicious prance around completely oblivious to the freight train headed his way is either entertaining or disturbing, depending on your depth of empathy.

Anyway, here they are — your must see ’80s punk movies: http://diffuser.fm/mandatory-80s-punk-movies/
