Deep Cuts: Desert Songs

Some people love the desert. I am not one of those people.

It’s hot and flat with lots of dirt, snakes and various outside. I’ll take beach or mountains any day.

But hey, if you dig the desert that’s cool. I’m sure there’s tremendous beauty for those willing to see it, but my horse with no name is never going to see it.

Anyway, desert songs:

“Desert Kisses,” Siouxsie & the Banshees.

“Desert Island,” XTC.

“Desert Search for Techno Allah,” Mr. Bungle.

“Desert Plains,” Judas Priest.

“Asleep in the Desert,” ZZ Top.

“Desert Blues,” Allman Brothers Band.

“Desert Skies,” Marshall Tucker Band

“My Desert Serenade,” Elvis Presley.

That’s enough for me, I’m going to go sit in the shade until midnight comes to the oasis. Do you have some desert songs to share? I’m listening.

  1. “His Majesty The Desert” by Down.

Less a song than an interlude, but it’s trippy and evocative of the desert IMO…and it segues into one of my favorite Down songs, the heavy-as-hell “Pillamyd.”
