Every generation’s pop music is a bit of wasteland, but man did 1985 suck in pop music — Phil Collins, Lionel Richie, Madonna, Whitney Houston. Blech. Most pop music during that period was so polished that you could see your reflection in it, so when the Mary Chain came along and couldn’t play for shit, man. It was like, woohoo! Something real!
