Like banned/changed album covers, test pressings are freak printings that I always pick up when I stumble across them. I like the rarity of them, and I like the peek behind the scenes of the process.
Here we have Chuck Cissel’s Just For You. Cissel was a Broadway performer who went on to make a few albums, including this 1979 disco platter featuring the self-referential “Cisselin’ Hot.” It’s not really my cup of tea, but the bass line is pretty solid.
Rare doesn’t always mean valuable, though. Just For You is one of those records you’ll find in the dollar bin with auction site prices in the 3-5 dollar range. Based on those prices, I’d guess a test pressing might fetch in 10 bucks or so, but it’s worth more to me just for the cool factor.
