Deep Cuts: Songs For Uncles

uncle ernie keith moonUncles mostly get a bad rap in rock songs. They’re molesters, abusers, creeps. But I genuinely like my uncles; well, there was one dud in the batch but divorce took care of that. My uncles were always really kind to me, and I am very grateful for that. I never had a chance to develop good uncle skills myself –my nieces and nephews live much too far away — but I like to think if geography had given me the chance I would’ve paid my uncles’ graciousness forward to the next generation.

Anyway, uncle songs. Here we go:

“Uncle Salty,” Aerosmith.

“Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey,” Paul McCartney and Wings.

“My Strange Uncles From Abroad,” Gogol Bordello.

“Uncle Jam,” Funkadelic.

“Uncle Remus,” Frank Zappa.

“Third Uncle,” Brian Eno.

“Uncle Arthur,” David Bowie.

“Uncle John’s Band,” Grateful Dead.

There you have it — a few uncle songs from my personal playlist. What did I miss? I’m listening.
