I laid down the law for 2017. You have to do these things early. You have to nip it.
Hopefully the Baby New Year will heed my rules and regulations better than rock stars do. As a group, these folks pride themselves on being ne’er-do-wells. They don’t give a damn ’bout their bad reputations, nor can they drive 55. Dio will be the first to tell you that the mob rules, though Bobby Fuller is quick to admit that he fought the law and the law won. It’s been that way since the birth of rock and roll.
We’re a long way from Elvis ’56, though. Rock and roll today is to rebellion as Coca-Cola is to patent medicine: It’s in the DNA, but it’s just another sugary snack food these days.
Anyway, songs about rules and regulations:
“Rules and Regulations,” Public Image, Ltd.
“Breakin’ All the Rules,” Ozzy Osbourne.
“Ain’t No Rules,” Transvision Vamp.
“I Make My Own Rules,” Red Hot Chili Peppers with LL Cool J.
“Can’t Set Rules About Love,” Adam Ant.
“Rules,” Pennywise.
“The Rules,” Hoobastank.
“Mob Rules,” Black Sabbath.
There you have it: Eight songs about rules and regulations. Now follow the rules and tell me what I missed. I’m listening.
