Deep Cuts: Future Songs

I wish I could remember what my childhood vision of 2017 is, but I know it wasn’t this. The future was supposed to be sterile at best and dystopian at worst–flying cars or Soylent green. Instead it’s cat videos and alternative facts.

So what have we learned? That 2057 will likely be more of the same. Sure, there will be incremental change, but we’re still not going to be colonizing Mars or teleporting.

You let me down, future.

Anyway, let’s get to the music:

Robot Song,” Flight of the Conchords.

“Future Shock,” Curtis Mayfield.

“In the Future,” Sparks.

“A Private Future,” Love and Rockets.

“The Way Of the Future,” Black Stone Cherry.

“The Future,” Leonard Cohen.

“Future Of Mankind,” Judas Priest.

Into the Future...” The Vibrators.

There you have it: eight songs about the future. I predict I missed a few. What are they? I’m listening.

  2. great list. There’s an ELO album called Time which has some excellent future songs. It is set in 2095. I hate to bring it up, but there’s always the Mr. Roboto rock opera by Styx.
