Happiness: That’s what it’s all about.
We make art in our pursuit of happiness. We make friends, meals, and love, too. In the United States, happiness ranks number three on our list of unalienable rights; well, the pursuit of it does, anyway. It’s all any of us wants, really.
I guess that’s what makes much of what we’re seeing happen in Washington lately so confusing. Policies that intentionally impede our or our neighbors’ happiness seem to violate America’s most fundamental principles. I guess those policies are making someone happy, but if your happiness comes at the expense of someone else’s misery then you’re doing it wrong.
Anyway, songs about happiness:
“Happy,” Public Image Ltd.
“Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With,” King Crimson.
“Peace, Love & Happiness,” G. Love & Special Sauce.
“Happiness Togetherness,” Heatwave.
“The Happiest Girl In the Whole U.S.A.,” Donna Fargo.
“Happy, Boys, Happy,” The Small Faces.
“Come On Get Happy,” The Partridge Family.
“Happy House,” Siouxsie and the Banshees.
There you have it: Eight shiny, happy songs. What did I miss? I’m listening.
