I might not be much of a football fan, but there’s always music.
But digging through my digital stacks to put together a football playlist turned out to be one of my biggest “Deep Cuts” challenges to date. Maybe I have more football songs on vinyl, but the pickings were slim among my CDs.
And that’s why you have two Mojo Nixon cuts (not that there’s anything wrong with that) and one track that’s about that other football, the one that people actually play with their feet.
Anyway, football songs:
“Football Fight,” Queen.
“Football,” Iggy Pop.
“High School Football Friday Night,” Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper.
“Not As Much As Football,” Mojo Nixon.
“All Alone In the End Zone,” Jay Ferguson.
“Football Fugue,” Pete Townshend.
“Backfield In Motion,” Mel & Tim.
“Coney Island Baby,” Lou Reed.
There you have it: Eight songs about football, even if one of them is about that other football. What did I miss? I’m listening.
