Deep Cuts: Thanksgiving Dinner Songs

I wrote an edible Thanksgiving playlist for a website a few years ago, but it’s not mine anymore. That’s the biggest downside of writing for hire. Sure, I made a few bucks and that playlist got tens of thousands of more hits than this one will, but it’s not mine to reprint. In that sense, writing for hire is like working in a rubber dog shit factory–your job is to crank out product that’s not yours–but writing is a hell of a lot more fun.

I really liked the editor at that particular website. I’m thankful that I had the opportunity to write for him, and thanks is what this holiday is all about, right?

Anyway, time to eat to the beat:

“Drinkin’ Wine,” Jumpin’ Gene Simmons.

“Cold Turkey,” John Lennon.

“Mashed Potato Time,” Dee Dee Sharp.

“Lumpy Gravy,” The Persuasions.

“Soul Dressing,” Booker T. and the MG’s.

“My Sweet Potato,” Booker T. and the MG’s.

“Polk Salad Annie,” Tony Joe White.

“Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie,” Jay & the Techniques.

There you have it: Eight edible songs for your big dinner. What did I miss? I’m listening.
