When guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein and bassist Jerry Only reformed the Misfits back in 1995, they needed a front man with the pipes, presence, and attitude to do their back catalog justice while also bringing something fresh to the band’s new material. Enter Michale Graves, just the triple threat that Misfits 2.0 needed.
The band enjoyed a good five year run, and then Graves was on his own for a string of bands, a stint in the Marines, and a tour of duty with Marky Ramone. Come on!
Beginning with 2013’s Vagabond, Graves’s solo work took on a more intimate, introspective vibe that sometimes shimmered like Big Star power pop, occasionally cut to the heart of the American experiment like Nebraska era Springsteen, but always remained distinctly Michale Graves. His most recent album, 2016’s When Worlds Collide, finds Graves revisiting his monster rock roots in string-scrapingly delightful fashion.
Which brings us to the “Beginning of the End Fall Tour” and Graves’s stop at Sacramento’s Holy Diver this Saturday, December 9, 2017. Tickets are only 12 bones each, and Holy Diver is an all ages venue. It doesn’t get much better than that, people.
