Some folks collect school recordings. I’m not one of them, but I always take a look when I see them in the bins. You never know who might have been involved in one of those albums, after all.
Such is the case with 1968’s In A Soul Session from the Southern University Stage Band, which features a 19 year-old Henry Butler on piano. Yes, that Henry Butler–the New Orleans jazz piano legend. Not familiar with him? Have a taste:
