It was awfully nice of somebody to arrange for the Fourth of July to fall on “Deep Cuts” day this year.
I’m kind of goofy for fireworks, always have been. I was the kid who blew up model airplanes, Band-Aid cans, and mailboxes. I shot bottle rockets at kids (and vice versa), emptied all of the powder out of my Black Cats and tried to make my own mega-firecracker, and blew up a raft loaded with fireworks. It’s a wonder that I still have two eyes and ten fingers.
Man, I had a great childhood, at least as far as blowing up stuff goes.
Anyway, fireworks songs:
“Rocket From A Bottle,” XTC.
“Sparkle City,” Shuggie Otis.
“Cherry Bomb,” The Runaways.
“Black Cat,” Janet Jackson.
“Reel Around the Fountain,” The Smiths.
“Exploder,” Audioslave.
“M-80 (Explosive Energy Movement),” Papa Roach.
“Pinwheels,” Smashing Pumpkins.
There you have it: Eight songs to blow things up real good. What did I miss? I’m listening.
