Deep Cuts: Driving Songs

What will become of the epic road trip in the era of autonomous cars? For some of us, at least, the driving is the thing. Sitting there passively while the miles click past is what made childhood road trips such a drag.

On the other hand, having a little computerized safety net to back me up when I don’t notice how sleepy I am or while I’m distractedly digging beneath my seat for a runaway Corn Nut doesn’t sound like such a bad thing.

Anyway, if you take to the road this summer enjoy it. I have a feeling that the epic road trip might be an endangered species. Meanwhile, here are some driving songs:

“Drive, She Said,” Stan Ridgeway.

“Death Alley Driver,” Rainbow.

“Drive,” Todd Rundgren.

“Driving Song,” Jethro Tull.

“Driving Nowhere,” Helmet.

“Woman Driving, Man Sleeping,” Eels.

“Sober Driver,” Dengue Fever.

“Your Turn To Drive,” David Bowie.

There you have it: Eight songs for your epic road trip. What did I miss? I’m listening.
