I’ve collected things as long as I can remember. Most of those enthusiasms have been short-lived, like my childhood baseball and comic book collections, but some have stuck with me for life. My oldest collection has to be my records, given that I still own albums that I had as a preschooler.
Collections are great, but it’s really all about the act of collecting. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a bird spotter or a crate digger, it’s the hunt that makes it fun.
So here’s to you, collectors:
“Hoard of Hope and Plunder,” The Billy Shinbone Show.
“The Bill Harper Collection,” Beastie Boys.
“The Teardrop Collector,” Love and Rockets.
“Collection of Goods,” Collective Soul.
“The Collector,” Nine Inch Nails.
“The Debt Collector,” Blur.
“The Love Letter Collection,” Jamie’s Elsewhere.
“Greatest Hits Collection,” The Weakerthans.
There you have it: eight songs for your collection. What did I miss? I’m listening.
Here’s ten 45s with picture sleeves I have in my collection…
“Blue Jean” – David Bowie
“Clones (We’re All)” – Alice Cooper
“Are U X-perienced?” – DEVO
“Surfin’ Bird” – Pee-wee Herman
“Our House” – Madness
“S. Central Rain” – R.E.M.
“I Predict” – Sparks
“Pride (In the Name of Love)” – U2
“Low Rider” – WAR
“Tush” – ZZ Top
