Deep Cuts

Deep Cuts: Birds Songs (But Not Bird Songs)

It’s a little maddening, having a bird outside my window who mimics the chirp of my front door alarm. Over and over, day and night, that little “cheep” that means somebody opened my door, and every time my insides jump.

But listen, I’ll take that any day over having no birds singing outside my window. A little nature keeps us humble, even when it is mimicking technology.

Anyway, songs about birds:

“As the Crow Flies,” Rory Gallagher.

“The Hawks,” Shuggie Otis.

“Little Bluebird,” Johnny Taylor.

“Fly, Robin, Fly,” Silver Convention.

“Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow,” Sammy Davis, Jr.

“Bird Calls,” Charles Mingus.

“Blue Jay Wings,” Eldorado.

“Chicken Grabber,” Nite Hawks.

There you have it: Eight songs that prove your bird can sing. What did I miss? I’m listening.
