Why It Matters 
This interesting young lady’s name was Maria Gudmundsdottir, and she was Miss Iceland in 1961. Her image graced fashion pages, pattern books and catalogues (Sears, etc.) for decades. In 1995, her 300+ page biography, “María, konan bak við goðsögnina” (“Maria, The Woman Behind the Myth”), was authored by Ingólfur Margeirsson. (Don’t know if an English-language version exists.)
Beginning in her 60s, she did a little bit of acting, racking up a dozen or so credits in the late 1990’s and in the 2000s. (Again, seems none are English-language though.)
She passed away in December 2021 at the age of 86.
