That’s my mom up there holding the kid doing a Curly Howard impression. The little one is, in fact, one of three stooges, just not one of the Three Stooges. She’s one of my two big sisters, or she would be eventually. I wasn’t even an idea yet when this photo was taken.
I’m not sure what’s in that basket. Sci-fi movies from that era suggest that both my mother and sister are in danger here, but I have it on good authority that they were never devoured by black slime from space.
Or…do I?
If Mom were writing this playlist, you’d be getting a lot of show tunes, campfire songs, and standards, but she’s not here so you’re stuck with my cruddy taste.
Anyway, let’s get to the music:
“My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama,” Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention.
“Mama,” Oingo Boingo.
“Mommy Where’s Daddy?” Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“Every Mother’s Son,” Lynyrd Skynyrd.
“Mother’s Son,” Curtis Mayfield.
“Where Is My Mother,” Bob Marley and the Wailers.
“Momma Momma,” Betty Barney.
“I Took My Mom to the Prom,” The Ziggens.
There you have it: Eight songs about the most important woman in your life. What did I miss? I’m listening.
